Our Branch
The Poway-Penasquitos branch was founded in 1971. Our branch has approximately 150 members who live in the Southern California area communities of Poway, Rancho Peñasquitos, Rancho Bernardo, Ramona, Escondido, Carmel Mountain Ranch, Mira Mesa, Sabre Springs, and Scripps Ranch.

As a branch member, you will receive Adelante! (our monthly branch newsletter), as well as AAUW's state and national publications. You have the opportunity to participate in workshops, conferences, and conventions sponsored by the district, state, and national association.

Branch general meetings are usually scheduled in the evening on the second Wednesday of the month from September through June and occasionally on a Saturday. Upcoming meetings are announced in the Adelante! and in the Branch Activities section of this web site.

Our branch contributes to AAUW's Educational Foundation and Legal Advocacy Fund. We also fund scholarships for local women who are returning to college and send local seventh grade girls to a science camp sponsored by AAUW. To raise funds for these local scholarships, we hold an annual literary event each spring.

Our branch members also participate in the following Interest Groups:

  • Walking Group
  • Out-to-Lunch Bunch
  • Bridge
  • Book Discussion
  • Dominoes
  • Gardening Gals
  • Games People Play
  • Mystery Book Group
  • Cinema Viewers and Book Discussion (Ramona Satellite)

Each January, branch members and friends relax at our annual weekend retreat held in the natural mountain setting of Camp Stevens in Julian, Calif.

All AAUW branch members are invited to attend the annual AAUW California Spring Convention featuring well known speakers and workshop sessions on AAUW issues as well as general interest topics.
